Last updated 07 July
Welcome to the July newsletter. I hope you are all enjoying our British summer which seems to have arrived at last. As with all good things the Marlow Players activities are coming to a close until September, so please take note and make the most of the upcoming events. First of all, here is some feedback on recent events…
Hilary Cox on Marlow Town Regatta and Festival (MTRF) - 12th June A very enjoyable day: warm, sunny, busy, excellent friendly atmosphere, lots of posh frocks - a few even covered the bottom....and some rowing, I understand. Lots of MP helpers at the gazebo, our promotional 'stand'- my personal thanks to those. Tony B & Jenny represented us at the Marlow Mayor's Reception. Good to see MPs dropping by the gazebo to say hello. Quite a lot of general interest in our next production: 'The Country Wife'. Some interest in joining The Players also. The Henley Mayor (Jeni Wood, involved in 'AmDram' herself) even invited us to perform at Henley's Kenton Theatre in 2011! Suggestion for the MPs to have a 'Posh Picnic' ourselves at the next MTRF - so long as a few stay sufficiently sober to man the gazebo...Watch this space. Now all gird your loins for the Marlow Carnival on Sat 18 September - no excuses!
Jennifer Major on Hallbarn trip to see Twelfth Night - 18th June As is typical when one plans a picnic, it started raining shortly before we set out to Hall Barn on Friday evening. Fortunately, it wasn’t enough to deter us from dining al fresco in the gorgeous grounds, and enjoying another fabulous evening’s Shakespeare at Hall Barn. The play was Twelfth Night, and it was extremely witty and engaging, as is consistently the case with the Chiltern Shakespeare Company’s performances. We all thoroughly enjoyed the evening, and the aptness of the fool’s final song - …”and the rain it raineth every day” was not lost on the audience.
Sara Di Donna on Brian’s Barbeque – 3rd July A big thank you to Brian and Margaret Couling for hosting this event. What a delightful way to pass a summer’s evening; relaxing on the gorgeous decking, protected by a gazebo should the lovely weather not hold out, sipping Pimms, munching on sausages and chicken drumsticks and chatting to friends. Perfick…
And now for something completely different…

Workshop for The Country Wife – 6th July We have a really big event planned for the November production this year. We have a guest director David Thomas—David has over 30 years’ experience of both opera and drama productions especially for the Windsor Theatre Guild and Windsor and Eton Operatic Society. He will be producing The Country Wife, a restoration comedy. The play has now been cast and the third of three drama workshops will be taking place on 6th July to assist everyone in getting into the part, so to speak. Full rehearsals start in September as usual.
Poetry Evening – 13th July Hilary Cox is running a poetry evening in the studio. Please bring a poem / selection of poems you would like to share with the group, including any you may have written yourself. Don’t be shy…
Lane End Players – 14th July The Lane End Players are putting on a large production of Nicholas Nickleby involving a lot of Amateur Players, and wondered if any Marlow Players would be interested in joining in. There will be a no obligation meeting at Lane End Village Hall on 14th July 8pm to see what it is all about.
If you are interested in attending, please contact Kerry Nicholson on 01491 880689.
Marlow Carnival – 18th September As with the Marlow Town Regatta and Festival (MTRF), the Marlow Players will have a stand at this event and we need bodies to man/woman it. Whereas the MTRF was more about raising awareness and having a presence, the Carnival will be more of a recruiting drive. All ideas on how to draw in the public would be greatly welcome (last year costumes were donned). If you are interested in helping out or wish to make some suggestions, please contact Hilary Cox: Hilary.Cox@xerox.com
Suggestions If you have any ideas for future productions, please email them to Graham Evans gde@pobox.com. This is an ongoing requirement, so please get your thinking caps on.
If you are unclear about any of the content of this newsletter or require further information about the Society please contact Sara Di Donna, Secretary at Thank you.
