Welcome to the Marlow Players AGM update page. The last AGM was held 20th May 2010. The Marlow Players 69th AGM Chairman's Report Tony Bew March 25-27 Production of’ Spygame’ directed by a very patient Andrew Stafford,(Welcome back Andrew) A tale of Murder, Deception and descent into Madness that was very well received. Afterwards we had a lovely party at Andrew and Sally’s house, thank you. Last week-end we entertained 21 ‘Les Baladins’ from Marly le Roi, we had a communal supper on Friday night at the Kings Head. They performed a Feydeau farce on Saturday night – fast and furious, and we were grateful for the support of the new Mayor of Marlow (Roger Wilson) and for the Town Twinning support. We had an after show party at the Vulcan Scout Hut on the Saturday night/Sunday morning. They were given a good lunch next day and left us min-afternoon. For all the organisation involved I need to thank Olive (for the accommodation and general arrangements) Maura Ross for organising the Kings Head, and booking the Vulcan Scout Hut, and Ellie, Caroline and Suze for the food and drinks at the party, and Graham for the beer and music, and Andrew Stafford for the decoration of the hut. It all went extremely well – thank you. Treasurers Report Brian Couling Thanks to Olive, Iris Hilary for the box office. The Tourist Information Centre as moved but are still doing a good job. We have opened up Pay Pal, Pay on line, for the last three productions. The TIC plus On-line amount to half takings, we would like to improve on this a little. We need to encourage everyone to use on-line for tickets for plays and subs etc. as it is a very slick show. Main accounts presented. Main Expenses. We have been very successful in our shows once again. ‘Darling Buds of May’ did well and made a profit in spite of high expenditure on costumes, set etc. Ticket sales were very good. ‘Spygame’ made more of a profit as outgoings were smaller, but tickets sales were a little less. ‘Les Baladins’ we more of less broke even, but we did manage to receive e some money from Marlow Council. Cost of Studio. This year we spent a lot on refurbishment to Studio, however, this year expenditure should be a lot less hopefully. Olive goes to a lot of trouble to get sponsorship for programs and they are very profitable, We perhaps need to explore this avenue a bit more. Robin asked is someone like Micheal Shanley could perhaps sponsor us, it’s certainly worth looking into. We have money in the bank, however, we are endeavoring to keep finances down this year. Election of Officers and Committee. President Chairman Tony Bew Treasurer Brian Couling Secretary Sara Di Donna Member Hilary Cox Member Graham Evans Member Jennifer Major Member Brian Plested Member Robin Teasdill Anderson Award Gloria, Brian, Ellie, Graham, Diana, Hilary and Ellie were nominated Brian won the vote for outstanding contributions in every way. His tireless work for the Society, keeps us well informed via the web, etc. Brian said he was happy to be appreciated. Summer Other proposed activities of the Marlow Players this Summer. We shall take parting the Marlow Town Regatta Festival on 12 June – gazebo in the park. We plan a theatre trip to Hall Barn, thanks to Jenny for arranging, anyone interested, please speak to her. Hilary Cox sent out a request for folk to spare 1 or 2 hours to man the gazebo between 9am and 4.30pm. If interested, please contact Hilary We plan to record 2 radio plays on Marlow FM, or one play and maybe a poetry one. Graham Evans confirmed dates (which can be found on the website). Marlow FM now has a 5 year licence so can build studio and start transmitting. Target for broadcasting is the autumn. Will be 24/7. We plan 3 Drama Workshops on the Art of Restoration Comedy in June, led by Guest Director David Thomas. There’s a Barbeque at Brian Coulings’ house 3 rd July – thanks Brian, anyone interested speak to Brian. Please bring your own meat and some salad to Brian Couling’s – it’s a share all policy. It will be under cover and there will be a magician Our Next play is already cast ( a first)!! It’s ‘The Country Wife’ by William Wycherley, a Restoration Comedy that was banned for 300 years as it is a little saucy. Rehearsals start properly in early September. We shall be performing this in November ‘in the round’ in the Shelly Theatre, Court Garden, with lavish costumes and our Guest Director: David Thomas should be good fun and keep us all on our toes! We will be doing some play reading during the summer. And cleaning the studio. AOB Costumes for “The Country Wife”: Robin Teasdill - John, the lighting man, says the Highbury Theatre group, who have put on play previously, has costumes. Robin has contact (Steve Boyé) John has also said he can borrow lighting from the English National Opera, where he works Brian Couling – Kirsty from Operatic society has agreed to do costumes for David (Director). However, we need another person to assist with costumes (all will be set up for them). Hilary Cox to email to gauge interest and also ask about looking after the children. Poetry Evening: Hilary suggested having a poetry evening in 2011. Could be private, public or recorded – maybe instead of one of the radio plays in 2010? Brian informed us that Philippa has said we can use the Library The French: Olive Smith thanked us for our help with the French this year and said that it was her swan song in organising the event Hilary thanked Olive, on behalf of the Players, for all her help over the years. We now need a new person to organise the French trips Olive has kindly agreed to continue with publicity. Decision has been made that the next Marlow Players’ visit to Marly will be when it is not French holiday time. Andrew Stafford to think about which play he will be directing us in for the French trip AGM closed at 10pm by Tony Bew, Chairman |
