President’s Report (Jimmy)

Apologies for missing House Guest

Enjoyed the Christmas Party

Late as usual (sic) choosing the Spring performance, which cost us trouble.

We lost Tony K, but many thanks to Andrew for stepping in and doing so well.

The play was eventually a success, despite the struggles on the way.

A few dropped lines and that infamous last 5 minutes on the Saturday (BANG!)

We need to address this problem, and find out how many active members are left in the Players.

Scraped a cast together, by casting just about everyone who auditioned. Certainly all the men we have. We’re short of castable people who want to be cast!

Technical backup just not there. Paul saved our bacon, in effect.

We need to get new people in to join…

And looking forward to the French coming.

Chairman’s Report (Tony B)

Last year’s visit to France was great, and hope the French enjoy their trip to Blighty too.

70th Anniversary dinner was very enjoyable. Would be good to have a regular Summertime item of this ilk.

House Guest was an appealing script for him as a Director, but twitched a bit when we started rehearsing! Got there in the end, though, with 4 strong male leads and good support from the women.

Was also a financial success.

Christmas to Easter turn-around always difficult, compounded by the fact that Lord Arthur Savile’s Crime (LASC) wasn’t cast til after Christmas, and Easter fell inconveniently in March.

Short on backstage support.

Rehearsals in the theatre from 7-10pm are just too short.

Rod’s BANG!

Again – Rod’s BANG!

Of the two performances this year, LASC was tough to get out. Hard work from start to finish.

Communication has been poor in general. Not helped by Tony K being unwell.

We need to get things established early, and get organised.

Thanks to Olive for her support, especially as a non-committee member.

Thanks to Jimmy for soldiering on.

Thanks to Dom, and Brian.

Thanks to all of us for turning up, and making the Players what we are.

Treasurer’s Report (Brian)

Good news, and good news.

We moved financial year end to 30th June.

This year’s performances: House Guest, LASC, Les Baladins’ Macbeth

Council threw us £500 grant for hosting Les Baladins

70th anniversary was successful.

Less income than last year, but we’re still due monies from various avenues. Marlow Tourist Info Centre especially, who tend to bring in £800 - £1000 every show. They charge us 5%, and also take credit card payments. Probably £800 left to come in from LASC. Anticipated totals of £3500 from House Guest and £3000 from LASC. Extremely respectable figures.

With the fairly large £400 spend on the women’s wardrobes, we still expect to make £1200 - £1400 profit on LASC. More on House Guest.

The 70th party was expensive, but worth it and we can afford to subsidise these events.

Last year approx £3000 profit. This year more like £1200, but we’ve spent some on partying.

Need to spend about £5k on the walls of the studio, to keep it standing. Materials estimated at £2500, and £200 per day labour.

Our break-in. Thoughts on reinforcing the door. Or would it make the place look higher value? The intercom system that was nicked was worth £1000. Police have traced the buyer and the seller on eBay. Not confident of getting it back.

Election of Committee

Staying the same as is.

Tony K will stand as Secretary if no-one else will, but his health is an issue.

Brian will take the role if someone would rather do the Treasurer’s role.

No election required.

Anderson Awards

Brian, Andrew, Tony B and Dom were nominated.

Brian won the vote (we had all had a glass of red wine by this point!)

Autumn Play

Sara knows a guy who writes plays…

A Thriller, or something with gravitas

Suggestions:

Dinner Party

Abigail’s Party (recently done near Maidenhead)

A double-bill of Noël Coward plays; a comedy and Still Life

Queries on that, since in the past it has split the group, rather than encourage the usual bonding that these things can bring. However, since we’re so few there’s every chance it’ll be an overlapping cast, in which case this shouldn’t be an issue. Finding two venues for rehearsal was a previous issue, too.

A Shakespeare

40 Years On

The History Boys

Anthony & Cleapatra

Again, the need to find out who our active members are, to see who we can cast.

Can we put the feelers out for Borlase 6th formers, to get them interested and involved.

AOB

When has Tony K booked the theatre for 2009? Potentially a week late…

29 French coming

Money for French still due

Issues with Court garden as a venue recently

AGM Closed at 22.34 (and we had some more wine)
